Reimbursement Associate - Insurance Verification Specialist

The Reimbursement Associate is responsible for all administrative aspects of the insurance verification, prior authorization, and denial/appeal processes for Soluble Systems’ active biologic wound care product, TheraSkin®. This is a front line position, in a fast paced, results driven environment. The employee will respond to all provider and internal reimbursement and coding request in a timely fashion and is responsible for providing patient-specific coding, coverage, and reimbursement information to the company’s customers.

This position will work from the corporate office in Newport News, Virginia.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performs accurate and timely insurance verifications to confirm patients health insurance benefits for all company products.
  • Confirms and coordinates authorization information, enters in system, monitors status, and processes re-authorization if needed.
  • Proactively requests appropriate clinical documentation from clinicians when needed.
  • Proactively monitors medical policy coverage and fee schedules relating to skin substitutes.
  • Effectively communicates insurance verification and prior authorization results to customers and sales reps and answers all related questions.
  • Assists customers with denials and appeals; follows up with payers and providers to see denied claims through to resolution.
  • Answers technical reimbursement and coding questions for providers, billing and coding staff, and sales representatives while maintaining the highest level of customer service.
  • Prioritizes duties and tasks as necessary to ensure assignments are completed in a timely fashion.
  • Maintains and promotes positive and professional working relationships with peers and management.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

REPORTS to Reimbursement Manager.
KEY EXTERNAL CONTACTS – Healthcare Providers including Doctors, Nurses, Site Managers, Health Insurance Companies (Payers), Coding/Billing Specialists, and 3rd Party Billing Specialists, Insurance Plan Customer Service Representatives.
KEY INTERNAL CONTACTS – Sales Management and Sales Territory Managers.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • 5 years prior reimbursement, coding or billing experience with office, outpatient hospital, and ambulatory surgical centers.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and Private insurer reimbursement methodology.
  • Prior experience obtaining patient eligibility from insurance carriers and basic understanding of the patients benefits [deductible, copay, coinsurance, out-of-pocket, etc.]
  • Experience with the prior authorization process for products/services.
  • Ability to locate, interpret and analyze detailed medical policies, EOBs, claim denials, and familiarity with the appeals process, including appeal submissions to insurance carriers.
  • Highly capable of problem-solving, multi-tasking, staying focused, managing time efficiently and shifting quickly and seamlessly between functional areas.
  • Ability to perform essential duties and responsibilities with minimal supervision.

The HR Manager will be responsible for administering human resource policies (70+ employees) including the recruitment of personnel, on-boarding/off-boarding, compensation, and other activities needed to carry out the company’s personnel objectives and programs.
