Plans to Sell TheraGauze™ in Canada in 2010
NEWPORT NEWS, Virginia (March 31, 2009) – Soluble Systems announced today that the Canadian Intellectual Property Office has issued a notice of allowance for patent protection on the company’s moisture-regulating polymer technology. This Skin Moisture Rebalancing Technology (SMRT) gives wound care dressing TheraGauze™ the unique ability to regulate moisture differentially across a wound bed to enhance healing and reduce spread of infection.
Canada’s approval of Soluble Systems’ patent application marks the third country, including the United States and Australia, to issue patent protection for this technology. The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued the first patent in 2003 (#6,592,860). Applications are pending in additional countries.
“TheraGauze is currently used to treat chronic wound patients in hospitals, wound care centers, Veterans Affairs hospitals and home healthcare units across the U.S. with great success,” said company founder and Chief Technology Officer Guy Levy. “We are thrilled to introduce the healing benefits of TheraGauze to the Canadian wound care market.”
When used as directed, TheraGauze remains moist and active for up to seven days, reducing the frequency of dressing changes. It will not macerate tissue or stick to the wound and leaves no residue. TheraGauze has received the prestigious “Seal of Approval” from the American Podiatric Medical Association, and is clinically proven to surpass even growth factor treatment for the closure of diabetic foot ulcers.
